I evaluated Song Lang’s Story Telling AP3 speech “Justice has a long jaw” at the July Chapter Meeting at Chao Chu Kang TMC. Surprisingly, I won the best evaluator award, together with the best table topic speaker award. This is the first time I got a double awards in one meeting. I was very very happy. It really comes as a surprise since I was taking it quite lightly for this evaluation. Unlike my previous evaluations which I usually skipped break to work hard on the evaluation. This time I only jotted down couple of observation points during Song Lang’s presentation and just gave an impromptu evaluation. I let the ideas flew out naturally during my evaluation. hmmm..it seems to work.
This’s my 1st evaluation on Project 9. As I’ve never done project evaluation beyond P4, it’s a hurdle for me psychologically and also a challenge in my competency level. So, I ‘ve read up a little on persuasion skills and also listened to past recordings of P9 evaluations from the better speakers. Before the meeting, I made an effort to gather more info from Sahana (the speaker whom I was to evaluate). There is no doubt that a little preparation goes a long way even in project evaluation. ~ 8 May 2008

This is my second time evaluation P5 on body language. I was evaluating Melvina Koo who spoke on taekwondo. She was truly action packed, not like her usual self.
After evaluating numerous times in our club and external clubs over the last one year, I feel that I have developed my own style of evaluation, and I would say I am now quite a confident evaluator. Haha, self-ego

This is my evaluation on P7 project “Research Your Topic” at the NOL TMC Chapter Meeting. The speaker was Peter Yeoh.
I forgot to point out one strong point on the speaker. He has a good sense of humor. I wish I have that attribute. Overall, I feel that my evaluation has shown incremental improvement. I have a better control of vocal variety in terms of pitch, volume and pace. You can compare this evaluation and my previous evaluation to see the difference.
I also seeked the opportunity to invite two persons to be the project evaluator and language evaluator for our next meeting. I felt Christine chaired the meeting very well. There was a gift exchange and a potluck dinner in this meeting.

This is my first evaluation for an advanced project. The speaker is Doris Ng from NUS Alumni Toastmaster Club. Doris is alao the current president for the NUS Alumni TMC. I was pretty impressed by Doris’s outstanding speaking ability on that night. She could give a rather motivational and uplifting opening and closing president addresses. On her opening, she urged the members to aim to be top-class speakers. On her closing address, she again provoked her members whether they are willing to be trained. In Toastmasters Club, nobody’s speaking ability is perfect, there is always room for improvement.
In my evaluation on this speech, frankly I did not really care too much about the content. This was because I knew for technical presentation, there was a pretty standard format which is similar to a technical paper. First it was the outline, followed by results and discussions, and finally a summary. Therefore, I focused more on her delivery. To be honest, there was nothing much to nitpick. She was very fluent, clear and confident. So, it was easy for me to comment on her strengths. It was more headache to think of areas for improvement. Fortunately, I did the same project a month ago. I knew the audience would pick on her jargons. So I taught her a way to be impunity from using jargons.
I also the NUSA TMC pretty interesting in two ways. First, the club is more cultured. The scripts of the speakers tend to be more linguistically stylish. Second, the TMEs mentioned that their members prided themselves to be brutally honest in their evaluations.

This evaluation was given at the Tekok Blangah TMC Chapter Meeting. This meeting was a bit unique. There was only two prepared speeches. It was a combined meeting with the speechcraft. There were a number of speech craft educational talk by Wen Liang, Danny and Kwee Choo.
