This is my second successful club series presentation. I picked the topic on mentoring. In my previous presentation, I did not do well. I forgot my lines and took too long to reflect. I learned the mistake that I made in the first successful club series - trying to memorize the presenter script. It is simply too difficult for me to memorize the script for two reasons. Firstly, the script is not written by the speaker, the style of writing may not suit the speaker. Secondly, the script is unduly long and factual, which makes it harder to memorize. For this time round, I decided that I would read out a abridged script. I also aimed to kept the presentation within 5-7mins. The decision seemed to be right. The presentation was much smoother than last time. However, I talked a little bit too fast, and my speech only took slightly more than 5 mins.

This is my first successful club series presentation. The script is available in the manual. Initially I thought this is a easy job since I didn’t need to prepare for the script. However, it turned out to be even more difficult than I expected. The script the script was pretty long and the style of writing was not my style of speaking. Therefore, I had a hard time to memorize the script. I tried to modify some parts of the script to suit my speaking style, nevertheless I still fumbled quite a bit in the actual presentation by forgetting the lines.

I hope to learn from this blunder and improve on my next successful club series. Definitely I need more practice before the presentation.

“There was a time when people said that Choa Chu Kang Toastmasters Club wouldn’t make it, but we did!…

It was Sep 1995, a new Toastmasters Club was born. In the initial years, the Club experienced a gradual attrition of her charter members. The remaining members were stretched in terms of their abilities to field sufficient speakers and appt holders at each monthly meetings.  Many thought they wouldn’t make it. Nevertheless, they persevered and the rest, is history. Find out how our Club has gone from strength to strength in the past 11 years and the commitment of the many men and women who had made the Club a success.” ~ 14 Jun 2007

“This is my first Successful Club Series project. If I were to use the script in the TI Leadership Manual, I knew my audience would be bored with yet another long ‘citation’. So what I did was, to digest the Toastmasters Commitment (all 10 of them!) and re-write a script which included my experiences and personal stories in the toastmasters journey.” ~ 9 Nov 2006
